To ensure the continued safe and reliable delivery of electric services to your home, Avangrid has contracted KLE Inc. to inspect and retreat utility poles in your area. Depending on the type of pole and the location of the pole, retreatment may be required every 8 to 12 years to protect poles from wood destroying organisms. Routinely inspecting and retreating poles in need extends the life of utility poles, increases safety to utility workers and the public, and reduces drain on forest resources.

Here are some of the products we may use while completing utility pole retreatment:

External Treatment (WP101-Pro) This product is applied on any pole that is fully excavated and has been determined to be a serviceable pole. External treatments are brushed onto the exposed, below ground line portion of the pole. The treated portion of the pole is wrapped in a poly-craft paper, and the excavated hole refilled. Internal Treatment (Copper Naphthenate) This product is applied to serviceable poles that show signs of internal decay cavities and/or evidence of wood destroying insects. Copper Naphthenate is applied according to manufacturer’s instructions. Bore holes are plugged with wood or plastic plugs.

Fumigant Applications (GFUME96) This product is applied to all serviceable poles where internal decay is prevalent or suspected. All holes are to be plugged with tight fitting dowels.
